Let’s face it. We all have the tendency to let certain things go. To put off the things that take up time, bore us or that aren’t so much fun. Dentists are often the target of such deference. But, here’s the deal… you put off things for too long and it starts to get ugly. Take the guy with the wayward strands of hair… shooting out his ears or out of control eyebrows that could have their own zip code.
It’s not much different with your car. How many times have you told yourself – I really need to rotate the tires, check the brake pads, get an oil change… and the only to tell yourself the same thing, a month later, two months later, three months later… you get the picture. That is why we have created our new website Maintenance Matters.

Harvest Moon Update

Neal Tire & Auto Service donated $10,000 today to Harvest Moon Drive In to make sure that the drive in would be able to open for the 2013 season. The Harvest Moon Twin Drive In Movie Theatre in Gibson City was faced with the challenge of keeping their business open for the 2013 season, due to necessary and expensive equipment upgrades. The owners, the Harroun family, made a public request for help to raise the money needed.

Neal Tire & Auto Service stepped in to help, spearheading a campaign to donate $25 for each oil change performed at their Gibson City and Bloomington facilities. However, as the deadline approached, Scott Carlon of Neal Tire & Auto Service decided to donate the entire $10,000 amount requested in order to help save the movie theater.

With the success of Neal Tire & Auto Service facilities in Bloomington and Gibson City’s Have a Heart- Save the Drive In fund, the Harvest Mood Drive In will be open for business for another season.

“When I heard about the Drive In needing to raise money to stay open, I knew we had to find a way to help,” said Scott Carlon, Director of Marketing for Neal Tire & Auto Service. “We know it is an icon in one of the communities we call home, and that people come from all over to enjoy the theater. We couldn’t stand by and watch it close.”

Several thousand dollars were raised with the help of loyal Bloomington and Gibson City Neal Tire & Auto Service
customers, but Neal Tire wanted to make sure the Harvest Moon had what it needed to reopen for the 2013 season.

Have a heart save the Drive In

Nothing goes better together that cars and drive-ins, and Neal Tire & Auto Service is trying to save one of our favorites. The Harvest Moon Twin Drive In Movie Theatre in Gibson City is having a fund drive to raise the money needed to switch to digital projectors and keep the theater open. We are going to do our part with our “Have a heart, save the drive in campaign”. Now through Valentine’s Day (Feb 14) come to either the Gibson City or Bloomington, Illinois Neal Tire locations to get a oil change and we will donate $25 to the drive in for every oil change. Have a heart and help us save the Harvest Moon Drive In and get an oil change between now and Feb 14th.

Winter Weather Preparedness

The Farmer’s Almanac has released their 2013 Winter Outlook and predicts colder than normal temperatures with mixed snow, sleet and rain for our area throughout the season. This is welcome news after a very dry summer, but preparation will be key to staying safe on the roads. Taking the proper precautions early can prevent dangerous accidents on the road in snowy, icy and freezing conditions.

“Winters in the Midwest can create dangerous road conditions and the persistent freezing temperatures can be hard on your vehicle. Before the winter weather hits, there are a number of precautions drivers can take to make winter conditions more manageable on the roads,” said Scott Carlon of Neal Tire.

In icy conditions, quality tires are essential. Neal Tire recommends checking for 50 percent of tire tread before trusting tires on a trip. With less tread, traction will be compromised and icy conditions might get the best of your car. The risk of blowing a tire or spinning out of control increases with worn treads. It is also a good idea to check tire pressure to maximize fuel economy and prevent premature wear.

Experts also recommend making sure that your windshield wipers are working correctly for the best visibility, and topping off fluids as often as needed.

In the event of an accident, it is best to keep a winter preparedness kit in each vehicle. The kit should include blankets, an ice scraper, a small shovel and a first aid kit. Neal Tire experts also recommend keeping a red towel or flag to hang on the antenna in the event a driver becomes stranded. Consider placing a bag of sand or kitty litter in the trunk to add weight to your car while driving. The sand can also be used on top of ice to add traction in dangerous parking lots. Drivers should also keep a spare tire and jumper cables for emergencies.
